The swap meets have begun, and from the reports I have heard, the turn-outs have been good. I have been seeing more old cars out on the road in the last few weeks, too. I guess it is early spring fever. I followed a 57 T-Bird down the Mukilteo Speedway the other day and was struck by how small it looked in a world of “safe” cars. Most of the newer cars around it towered over the fifties icon.
Your Club has a few spring tours coming up, the first of which will be this Saturday, March 6th, to Griot’s Garage in Fife for an open house and car care seminar. Bring your old Mopar and get some ‘hands on’ tips from the pros! It will begin at 9:30 AM and run till around 3:30, with a break for lunch in the local area. Griot's Garage is located in Fife at 3500 20th Street East, 98424. Please RSVP to Dan Corrigan at (253) 531-6731, or tallfins@aol.com. See page six of this newsletter for more information and driving directions.
Our next tour will be on March 20th. It will take us north to Pat Ferrell’s amazing steam car and memorabilia collection, and should be a bunch of fun. See page six of this newsletter for the details. We certainly can’t complain about weather at this point, as it already seems like spring. Hopefully those nice days will continue for our tours too.
The Club has been invited to attend the grand opening Open House for the new Flying Museum at Everett’s Paine Field on May 15. That’s the same day as the Monroe Swap Meet, but the Open House will be held in the afternoon so I think it will work fine. They want cars from the thirties, forties and fifties, so I told them we would love to attend. There will be a B-25, a Bearcat, an At-6, a Waco, and many more significant airplanes on display. The Open Houuse runs from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, and they will also have a barbeque and other events as well. We will discuss the event in greater detail at our Tuesday night meeting, but I think it should fit into our schedule quite nicely.
The Board has completed the plans for our Regional Meet in Ellensburg this summer. We have included the event flyer in this newsletter, so sign up early and don’t miss out! The memories from these events last a lifetime, so lets really put on a great show! As of today 12 hotel rooms have already been spoken for, so we should have a great turnout. We have also had several members come forward and offer to help, and we will be asking for more volunteers in the coming weeks and months. I am proud of all the support the membership gives us on these events. It really helps.
The Portland swap meet dates are coming up fast as well, just 4 weeks away. As usual, it promises to be a really big one and I know many of our members will be attending. It is always exciting to be at the beginning of the car season and to look forward to all the upcoming events. There is nothing that quite compares to the pull of the open road and all the adventures that it promises. So fire those old rigs up and head out on the highway! Jon Jon
